Torpedo Rocks Cabernet Merlot 2016
72% Cabernet Sauvignon / 24% Merlot / 4% Malbec
Yield: 4 tonne/hectare
Soils: Black loam over limestone, sandy loam over clay and non wettable sandy loam over clay
Winemaking: A selection of cabernet picked from various paddocks within the vineyard - low yields to ensure maximum sugar and flavour ratio. Hand-picked, basket pressed with fermentation in open vats to ensure gentle tannin extraction. Barrel aged for 18 months. 100% Grande Reserve French Oak used with the new oak component being 35% with 2 to 4 year old oak barriques.
Minimal intervention when bottled.
Tasting Comments: The 2016 summer was a milder season and sees this vintage as a lighter expression of the blend. The touch of Malbec brings morrello cherries both to the nose and palate and we taste the cabernet's contribution of black fruits, raspberries and lightly stewed rhubarb. The oak gives the wine hints of cocoa, the mid palate weight and the length. A delicious easy drinking wine that can be enjoyed on it's own or with food.
