Torpedo Rocks Shiraz 2014
Yield: 4 tonne/hectare
Soils: Black loam over limestone
Winemaking: Hand-picked, basket pressed in whole bunches, malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged for 22 months in10% Grande Reserve American Oak and 90% Grande Reserve French Oak used with the new oak component being 35% with 2, 3 and 4 year old oak barriques.
Minimal intervention when bottled.
Tasting Comments: The colour is a bright garnet red with a nose of plum jam, allspice, sugar coated almonds, dark chocolate, curry leaf and toasty spicy vanilla oak. The dark red fruits drive the wine with red currents, cherries and raspberries. It wouldn’t be Shiraz without the spice characters and tiny hints of curry leaf, star anise and aniseed. The chalky tannins give you something to chomp on.
